ANNUAL REPORT 2010-2011

 

INTRODUCTION:

 

        SSDNM is the Non Government Organisation, set up by the group of young people in 1997 with an office at Nongstoin.

       The main Objective of the Organisation is to bring and take up the issue  for all round development in Meghalaya.

       In these last 14 years SSDNM help rural people to start Income Generation Activities, forming Self Help Groups, train people to set up Herbal Garden and Many more.

     At present the SSDNM focus to speed up development activities in rural areas of West Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya.

MEETING:

      The SSDNM conduct regular meeting every months for strengthen the development work of the Organisation in the Project Villages of the District.

TRAINING:

      SHGs Training, Credit Management, Training on Cultivation of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Community Fish Farming Training, Rural Technology Camp, Farmers Training Camp, Vermicompost Training, Mushroom Production Training, Livestock Management Training, Marketing Management Training, etc are some of the regular training programme of the SSDNM in Meghalaya.

AGRICULTURE DEVELOPMENT:

           The  SSDNM together with the Rural Community promoting and exploring the ways and means for increasing the production of rice and Maize. The Organisation facilitate the rural people to have sufficient food for round the year.

      SSDNM helping the Farmers to expand their Paddy Field and Maize Garden with the application of Vermicompost  as their Organic Fertilizers, using Vermicompost in their Garden the yield is increasing.

In this year SSDNM set up one model Integrated Farming Project at Nongstoin Block.

HORTICULTURE DEVELOPMENT:

       Peach, Plum, Black Berries, Myrica, Guava, Turmeric, Ginger, Vegetables, Green House, Floriculture are main Horticulture programme promote by  SSDNM in West Khasi Hills District.

VERMICOMPOST:

       50 Vermicompost  Units set up by SSDNM  for Rural people in 10 Villagesof the District.

      2 Model Vermicompost Production Units operating by SSDNM, around 120 MT Vermicompost is producing every year.

RURAL ROAD:

   This year SSDNM  are able to conduct one kilometer Road for 3 villages in Nongstoin Block.

MEDICINAL AND AROMATIC PLANTS:

      Acorus Calamus, Arisaemia Jacquenantii(Hadem Bsein), Artemisia vulgaris(Jaiaw), Asparagus Filcinus( Bat Niangsohpet), Centella asiatica(Bat moina) Curcuma aromatic(Shynrai Khlaw) houttuynia cordata (Jamyrdoh), Melia composite (Diengling) Potentilla fulgens (Langning Kynthei) Potentilla mooniana (Langning Shynrang) Taxus baccata  are some of medicinal plants promoting by ssdnm in the District.

Next year SSDNM planning to set up  commercial  medicinal and aromatic plants garden with Safed Musli, Stevis, Patchuli, Geranium, Ginseng, Aswagandha, Adiantum sp as the main Crops.

ENVIRONMENT:

    To save environment SSDNM set up two lawadong in Syllang. Lawadong meant the forest reserved for the future use. Next year some more reserved forest joint together with the Community will be taken up.

WATER CONSERVATION:

       The SSDNM  promote and support the rural people to have clean drinking water, helping people for construction of community tanks with the surrounding plantation of trees.

      2ha community water conservation dam work is under progress now, and this project will be completed next year.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY:

   SSDNM members voluntarily helping poor people to develop their own smokeless chulhas in their home.

     Mudblock making, Low cost oven, Vermicompost, Low cost water filter are some of the rural technologies promote by SSDNM  in the District.

MICRO ENTERPRISES:

    SSDNM take up the issue of unemployment youth of the district, so to help them stand under own feed, SSDNM support  to start Coal Business, Shop, and Herbal Care unit for the Youth.

 

FUTURE ACTION PROGRAMME:

 

       SSDNM aims to take up best and top development projects in Meghalaya, so to achieve the these main target, the following activities will be taken up next year.
